Students Tour Delta TechOps

This week, LCA’s high school STEM teacher, Sherry Morris took a group of students to tour Delta Air Lines Technical Operations Center (Delta TechOps). These 12 students are interested in pursuing a career in the Engineering field and Mrs. Morris created an opportunity to help these students explore what that could mean for their futures.

Delta TechOps is a division of Delta Air Lines and one of their locations is at Hartsfield Atlanta Airport. It is a full-service aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider with a mission to offer the industry’s most nimble, intuitive, and innovative MRO program.

LCA’s group toured a large part of the Atlanta hangar, including the engine shops and several component maintenance shops. A Boeing 777ER was in the hanger for a maintenance check and while the students toured the aircraft they were able to sit in the cockpit, access the crew rest area and see the structure and wires behind the ceiling panels. The tours were very informative! They learned about engine operation, landing gear, fuel storage, instrument panels, and navigation panels.  “I loved being able to see parts of the airplane up close. It was amazing seeing how big each part is, and seeing how many people put so much time and care into the little details that ultimately make us safe when we fly,” says Madeleine Tran, senior. They learned about the variety of technical jobs that Delta offers including the aircraft maintenance technician profession. “It was quite an experience seeing how large the aircraft components are up close. I was surprised to hear the high cost of even the smallest part and the number of parts one facility repairs,'' says Reese Morris, junior.

“Our tour guides did a fantastic job explaining to the students what it is like to work in a technical job at Delta and why it is so important to work for a company that you love,” Sherry Morris. Thank you Delta for an amazing day!
