"Where I'm From"

By: Anna Meyers

I am from movies, food, and Daddy’s camera.

From Kraft, Jiff and Coca-Cola.

I am from the red brick ranch and tower in the backyard,

The sweet, southern taste of my mom’s cooking.

I am from the Magnolia tree and Grandma’s Gardenia bush,

The sweet smell of the south.

I’m from road trips, family meals, Bama football, and laughter.

From the crazy Mama Tine and the farmer, Grandpa Meyers.

I’m from the “circling it back to food” and quoting movies and shows,

From “Slow obedience is no obedience'' to ''Yes and no ma’am,”

From “You get what you get, and you don’t pitch a fit” and “I’d rather have a treat than a treatment!”

I’m from a relationship with Jesus and generations of Christ-centered homes.

I’m from Loganville, Georgia; Cave City, Arkansas; and Fort Cobb, Oklahoma,

From grits, spaghetti, banana bread, pecan pie, and casseroles.

From the orphan’s boy who had a future for his family, to the girl who tickled the ivories.

From the impatient Pastor’s daughter after church, to the boy who traveled a lot.

I’m from the walls of our home, filled with memories to share,

From the love and joy God gives our family.

I am from the place I’m proud to call home.
