COLLEGE ADVISEMENT

The College Advisement office is focused on guiding students through the college selection process. As a graduation requirement, every student is required to be accepted to at least one college or university. The college advisor offers support to ensure LCA students and parents are well versed in the nuances of the steps to college application and admission. Celia Davis, our College Advisor, is available to meet with students a/o parents at any time during the college planning process.

+ 9th-10th GRADE STUDENT AND PARENT INFORMATION

Students have a fresh start in the 9th grade. High school courses and grades form the transcript that will be sent to colleges during the application process. College admission is based most strongly on a student’s high school grades and the rigor of the courses taken within the context of school course offerings.

The time to visit and apply to college may seem far away, but everything a student does beginning in 9th grade, including grades, activities, leadership roles, travel, jobs, and accomplishments will be a part of that application process. College and scholarship applications often request information about a student’s extracurricular activities. Parents can help students keep a record of all honors and awards, activities including sports and clubs, community service, church activities, travel, hobbies, jobs, camps, courses, and anything else that sets the student apart. It is important to note leadership positions.

This is also the time to create your GAFutures account.

+ 11th-12th GRADE STUDENT AND PARENT INFORMATION

Juniors and seniors have access to LCA’s College Planning Handbook via iLearn. The handbook includes planning calendars, college fair dates and locations, SAT and ACT dates and strategies, college profiles, campus visit questions, and financial aid helps.

It is recommended that all students take the SAT at least one time before their senior year.

Juniors and seniors may take three days for college visits, bringing in the signed college visit form so that the visit will be an excused absence. Students needing additional days should contact the principal before planning the visit.
