My LCA Story: Chapman Family

We love hearing how God moves in the lives of our families! Hear from some of our newest members to the LCA family about how God led them to attend LCA this past January!

Back in August, my son Jonathan came to my husband and I asking if he could attend LCA. Initially, we chuckled. Believing the price of a private Christian education was outside of our budget, we let him know it wouldn’t be possible.

A few months later, Jonathan came to us once again asking if he could attend LCA. During the prior months, he had been praying about the possibility of switching schools, and he genuinely believed that the Lord was speaking to him. While the idea was still not a possibility financially, we decided to pray as a family that the Lord would direct our hearts and minds about where Jonathan should attend school.

Over the next few weeks, it seemed like LCA was following us! We would bump into families or friends who would bring up the school, and people would even come to our store recommending we visit. We took this as a sign and decided to schedule a tour. After touring the campus, my husband, Jonathan, and I all agreed that we could feel the Lord’s presence saturating the campus. Jonathan loved it! He was able to shadow one of his friends in October, and this confirmed Jonathan’s desire even more. So, our family took the next step and began to pray God would provide financially.

We reached out to an old friend we knew worked at LCA, and we found out she was actually head of admissions! She encouraged us to apply and schedule a meeting to talk with them about how LCA could partner with us both academically and financially. When we were asked about how we would be able to afford for Jonathan to attend all four years of high school, we were honest. My husband told them, “I don’t know. All I know is that we have been praying for God's direction, and it is not up to me and Angela to decide how, but for God to provide if He wants Jonathan at LCA.”

We felt like we were on track to plan and pray for God to provide for the fall semester, but Jonathan threw us another curveball. In November, he came to us once again, but this time, he asked if he could attend the upcoming spring semester. We reached out to the school to see if this was a possibility, but there were no openings in his grade. This seemed to be God’s answer for Jonathan’s request, so we continued to pray over his ninth grade year.

LCA continued to update us on openings for the spring semester, but we finally received the official email that there would likely be no openings for Jonathan to attend in January. My heart ached to tell Jonathan the news after school, but later that afternoon, we received a shocking email saying they had an unexpected opening in eighth grade.

There was an opening for Jonathan.

I cried tears of joy! When Jonathan came home from school, my husband and I read him the initial email we received from LCA. He was so disappointed, but when we read him the second email we received, he looked at us and responded, “No way. Y’all are lying.” He began to weep, and the sweetest words came from his mouth: “So God really was speaking to me.”

God then began to provide financially for Jonathan to attend in the spring.

Jonathan has now been a LCA Lion a little over a month and absolutely loves it! He has made new friends and made the starting catcher position on the eighth grade baseball team. We are so excited for this new journey and thankful for everyone at LCA who has answered all of our questions. Jonathan has his own God story, and so do we. We are so thankful for the journey God has already walked with us, and we can’t wait to see what He has in store for the next four years!
