Like every good book, the LCA story is filled with chapters. As new students enter the LCA story, other students turn their tassels and transition to the next chapter. At LCA, we believe in the phrase “once a Lion, always a Lion,” so we love to hear from our alumni about where they are in their stories today. Hear from Mason Wittner, class of 2014, about where God has led him as well as how his chapter in the LCA story has affected his life.

It’s difficult to believe this May will mark seven years since I flipped my Class of 2014 tassel from right to left at Loganville Christian Academy's commencement ceremony.

I took my first journalism class as a junior at LCA. That program — as well as the guidance of the LCA’s outstanding English department — helped me discover my passion for writing and print journalism. Nearly seven years later, I’ve now had my bylines published in more than 10 publications and I’m currently serving as sports editor of The Covington News.

I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t been a Lion.

Upon my departure from LCA, I earned a degree in communication studies and a certificate in sports media from the University of Georgia. I then moved to Pittsburgh for six months to intern with MLB.com, covering the Pirates during the 2018 season. After my internship, I returned to the Peach State to become the sports editor of the Times-Georgian in Carrollton. I worked there for 15 months, growing as both a person and journalist, before coming to Newton County in January 2020.

My time at LCA did not solely shape me as a writer; it significantly impacted my relationship with Jesus. The administration and staff continued to mentor me after graduation, which has helped me keep my feet on the narrow path and my eyes locked on God.
