After changing my major a couple times, I am now doing Information Technology with a concentration in Systems and Security. I chose this major after attending a Women in Technology Boot Camp at GGC. I immediately fell in love with programming and IT! I applied to be a Student Ambassador and went through an interview process and was selected. Applying to be an ambassador is one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made! 

Congratulations to all of the boys varsity players as they continue to the state championship bracket. We are so proud of you! And at LCA, sports are about more than winning and losing. The Gwinnett Citizen posted an article in December 2018 entitled "Coaching Basketball to Instill Life-Long Lessons," featuring Coach Mark Davis.

Loganville Christian Academy sponsored a Daddy and Me Bowling event at Stars and Strikes in Loganville for our Lower School students on Saturday, February 9. The event was a success with quality time spent with many dads and their sons and daughters while getting to know other dads in the LCA family.

Recently, our pre-K class has been using a STEM lab to create bubbles using soap and air, they have learned about color and water adhesion using a “jumping rainbows” activity, and they have used basic ingredients to create a snow storm. LCA is excited to be able to introduce STEM as early as Pre-K and build on that through high school.

LCA would like to welcome Miss Puchta, a student teacher in Mrs. Lambert’s second grade classroom.

Each year the seniors complete a Game of Life project where they are taught in economics to compile a year-long budget while looking at careers, paychecks, taxes, mortgages, car loans, etc. The project focuses on the practical side of life so that LCA graduates can be well-equipped to navigate their lives post high school. This year, the first piece of the project was an extensive career search using YouScience aptitude tests.

Reading inspires creativity! On Wednesday, January 16, the Pre-K through 3rd grade students at LCA enjoyed a visit from Kenneth and Sarah Jane Wright. They are a husband/wife team of an author (Kenneth) and illustrator (Sarah Jane) who read their latest release Lola Dutch When I Grow Up to the students. 

The dual enrollment program at Loganville Christian Academy enables high school students to participate in dual enrollment classes with Truett-McConnell College. This pursuit of postsecondary coursework allows students to receive dual high school and college credit in the areas of College Algebra, American Literature, American Government, and English Composition. LCA students are able to graduate with up to thirty-six hours of college credit.

As someone who works and lives with middle schoolers, I spend a lot of time observing kids as they make the difficult transition from child to teen. One adolescent milestone is an increased focus on how they are perceived by their peers, which leads to new learning opportunities and challenges. This intense social awareness can cause kids to avoid experiences in which they might not succeed, but failure is vital to the learning process.

Christmastime is a season of giving. Family and friends spend hours searching for the perfect gifts, wrapping them beautifully, and awaiting the joy on recipients’ faces. From secular celebrations to church services, giving is at the heart of Christmas. And no one gives more wondrously, sacrificially, and lovingly than God Himself.

The Upper School students at LCA invested many months this semester into preparing LaFayette No. 1. This production was performed and received honors at several theatre competitions during the months of October and November before it was performed for our own community in December.

When I graduated from LCA in 2015, I had no idea what I wanted to do and what I hoped to accomplish throughout my collegiate career. In the midst of applying to several different undergraduate programs, I stumbled across Belmont University. After visiting a few times and applying to Belmont, I felt the Lord calling me to take a leap of faith and move to Nashville.

While many of us strive to make gratitude a big part of our everyday lives, the month of November provides a natural pause for all of us to reflect on all we have to be grateful for as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving.

The goal of IMPACT, LCA’s community service program, is to develop a daily lifestyle of service by providing opportunities for leadership outside of academics and athletics. This allows students’ spiritual gifts and talents to be used to impact our community for Christ. 

Dr. Nicole Pourchier has spent the past fifteen years teaching in various settings. After finishing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Auburn University, Nicole started her career teaching first and third grades in Gwinnett County. When her daughter Penelope was born, she began her doctorate program at Georgia State University and studied language and literacy education.
